Girl Pick-Up

Soleil always tells her daddy pick-up lines which I don't know where she heard of. She never watched Bubble Gang, I know cos I don't get to watch that show either. Her daddy and I were astounded when we first heard her throw one.

Jeff's the person who laughs at Soleil's every joke. As in walang palya! Everytime Soleil say something funny, he's the first person who will laugh.

Last Sunday, while getting ourselves ready for church, I heard them exchanging some pick-up lines. I'm laughing so hard listening to them.

Here's how their conversation goes.

Soleil: Daddy tae ka ba?
Jeff: Bakit?
Soleil: Kasi hindi kita kayang paglaruan.

Jeff: Ikaw tae ka ba?
Soleil: Bakit?
Jeff: E kasi amoy kang tae.
Soleil: Eeeeeeh! Hindi naman!

Soleil: Ihi ka ba?
Jeff: Bakit?
Soleil: Hindi kita kayang tiisin.

Jeff: Mais ka ba?
Soleil: Bakit?
Jeff: Kasi ang corny mo!

Soleil: Si Gerald ka ba?
Jeff: Bakit?
Soleil: Kasi ang budoy budoy mo.

Bwahahaha! There's more pero hindi ko na maalala. Sana kasi sinulat ko.
Pero diba? Sino hindi maloloka marinig ganyan mag usap mag ama nya!? Pag nasa bahay kaming tatlo, wala kaming ginawa kundi tumawa. Soleil is a natural comedian. Walang effort mapapatawa ka nya kaya we're lucky for having her. Napapawala nya kung ano mang stress na meron kami.

Soleil Helped Me With The Dishes

IMG_1813a
(Please excuse our very dirty kitchen)
Soleil's been bugging me everyday to let her do our dishes. I refused to, well at least for now! She's only 6, she have all the time in the world to wash the dishes and will eventually get tired of doing it when she's older.

Guess what? I eat up my words! Because today I allowed her to help me. I let her do it but still with my guidance. Our plates are pure ceramics, it's heavy! She's in charge with soaping and rinsing while I'm the one holding it for her. I had to repeat washing it though cos there's still bubbles left to rinse. And this is the first and last time I'll let her help me, she can do it alone when she's 13. Maybe!?

I asked Jeff to capture this moment. My little barbie doll is like I said growing way too fast! I need to savor every moment we spent together.

Soleil Wants To Be A Teacher

Every child will come to a period in their life when they want to be a teacher. I'm not sure if Soleil is in this phase right now or she's really serious that she'll choose teaching as her profession when she grows up. You see, she drools over books than toys, so maybe it's a sign? At first, she wants to be a dentist, then a baker, then a chef, but when she enters kindergarten, her teachers inspired her so much that she wanna be like them! I know it's too early for me to think about that and she still have 10 years to make up her mind but whatever it is that she'll choose is up to her, we're just here to support. We don't wanna be like other parents who decides for their child. It will be an easy breezy for us because we're not like them.

Last Sunday, we promised to give her a little gift for doing well in school and for giving us good grades. She asked for a blackboard, I guess she's serious about the teacher thing. Whatcha think?!

So yesterday I went to the bookstore to get one. I put it on the sofa so it will be the first thing she'll see when she opens the door.

Soleil's Realationship With Her Lamp

Soleil is not the type of 6 years old who loves to play toys. She always asks for books and other school stuff instead of toys. Ang dami na nyang naubos na crayons at pencils. Lahat na din yata ng activity at coloring books nabili na namin. It's so much favorable to us kasi she's so eager to learning and we also see results based on her school performance, so we don't mind na spending money to things that are also helping her to learn. Her teachers are even surprised na upon entering Preparatory, mabilis na sya mag basa.

Every time she arrives home from school, she will go directly to her study table which is located in one corner of her super tiny room or kukuha sya ng gamit nya at dadalin nya kung saang lugar man sa bahay. I noticed lang na everywhere she go, she brings her lamp with her. Her dad already scolded her kasi sya na din mag isa nagpplug nung lamp, Jeff's worried na baka makuryente sya. That lamp is a gift her Ninang Apple (Jeff's sister) gave her on her 4th birthday and ngayon nya lang binibigyan ng pansin.

IMG_1709IMG_1712

I only get to take 2 pictures kasi nagagalit sya kaka picture ko. Pero swear kahit saan talaga dala nya yang lamp na yan, lahat din kasi ng sulok ng bahay namin may saksakan, kung pwede lang dalhin sa banyo yan baka dala nya din dun. Hahaha!

Time Flies Fast

Monday, October 5, 2005 around 6 in the evening. I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. It's like it was just yesterday when I first held her in my arms. I was hands-on in taking care of her with a BIG help from my family and in-laws. Jeff and I will woke up on wee hours to change her nappy, prepare her milk, etc.. Our first three months with her is definitely the hardest for Jeff and I, the baby who's asleep in the morning and wide awake at night is Soleil's rubric. Her sleeping pattern only went to normal when she turned 4 months old.

Here are few of the many pictures of Soleil as she grows up. (I said few cos she have like thousands of photos, and still counting)

Last night while watching her sleep, I can't help but brood over the times when we celebrated our firsts with her. ( First: Christmas, New Year, Summer, Halloween, etc ). I can even remember the day when she first walk and the word she first talk. ( mairhyme lang. haha! ). Going back to that retrospect made me think of how indeed time flies freaking fast! I can't believe she's already 6. I realized that we should spend more time with her while she's young cos she is really growing up too fast!

Handling your little spoiled brat

I'm the mommy who blunders. I always try to give Soleil everything she wants that sometimes I feel like I'm already going overboard. She is now slowly turning into a spoiled brat and whenever I don't grant her demands, she'll cry. She will not stop until she gets them. She'll drag me whenever we pass by a store and point out whatever it is that she saw. It's hard to say no to your child (mommies would agree) but I'm also distraught that I'm leading her to the wrong path. She's only 6, I don't wanna think grungy when she turns older.

Yesterday, I gave her a hundred and fifty bucks to keep in her wallet, she can also spend it if she wants to buy something. I also told her that she needs to save it because I'll only give her money twice a month and that is every after 15 days. (which gives her 10php to spend a day). This is the only option I can think of to teach her in handling her own money at an early age, I know 6 years old doesn't supposed to be having their own money yet but if I don't do it now, when? I thought of teaching her now than start when she's already a spender and I guess I did the right thing because when we went to the supermarket in the afternoon, she only bought candy worth 19php and did not spend everything I gave her.

I'm intoxicated that she don't wanna squander all her wads. Now, I'm praying to completely chop off her teeny tiny antlers.

BTW, Maybe this story can help fellow mommies out there who's having problems like mine. It helped me too!

Children Don’t Listen To Anger, They Listen To Action by Kevin Leman.

4-year old Julio is at the back of the car, throwing a temper tantrum. He screams, “I hate you Mommy!” Mommy, instead of using anger, uses action. A few minutes after they arrive home, Julio goes to the kitchen. He looks for his milk and cookies—and it’s not there. At that point, his quiet world is discombobulated. Because kids are creatures of habit. Every afternoon, Mommy always prepares milk and cookies. So Julio goes to his mother and asks, “Mommy, where are my milk and cookies?” Very calmly, mommy says, “No milk and cookies today.” She then turns around and walks away. (This step is very important.) Little Julio runs after her. (Kids always do.) He asks, “Why Mommy? Why? Why? Why?” This is a teachable moment. This is when he is actually open to what Mommy has to say. She says, “Because I didn’t like what you did in the car. You had a temper tantrum. (Mommy acts it out just to make it clearer to the little guy.) And you said, ‘I hate you, Mommy.’ That hurt me very much.” By this time, little Julio is bawling, “I’m so sorry Mommy! I won’t do it again.” Mommy says, “I forgive you,Julio.” She hugs him. That’s when Julio whimpers, his big eyes filled with giant tears, “Mommy, can I have my milk and cookies now?” Here’s the secret sauce of this powerful action. Mommy says, “No milk and cookies today. You’ll have it tomorrow.” Believe me, Julio will never forget the lesson. Why? Because kids don’t listen to your anger. They listen to action. And you only have to do this once or twice. He’ll never throw another temper tantrum again.

PS: If you think I'm doing it wrong, then please tell me what's right.

Daddy and His Little Girl

A friend of my sister in law, who I'm making an invitation for her son's baptismal sent me a blog link asking me where she can buy a star balloon like the one from that blog. And since, I'm currently hooked to blogging, I browsed the whole site and came across to this post. While reading it, I noticed that a tear fell from my eyes. I felt sad cos I never had this kind of relationship with my father. My sister and I are NO Daddy's Girl.

Anyhoo, I'm still glad because Jeff and Soleil are doing some of these stuff together. I will ask Jeff to read this entry so he can do all these things while Soleil is still young.

50 Rules for Dads of Daughters by Michael Mitchell

1. Love her mom. Treat her mother with respect, honor, and a big heaping spoonful of public displays of affection. When she grows up, the odds are good she’ll fall in love with and marry someone who treats her much like you treated her mother. Good or bad, that’s just the way it is. I’d prefer good.

2. Always be there. Quality time doesn’t happen without quantity time. Hang out together for no other reason than just to be in each other’s presence. Be genuinely interested in the things that interest her. She needs her dad to be involved in her life at every stage. Don’t just sit idly by while she add years to her… add life to her years.

3. Save the day. She’ll grow up looking for a hero. It might as well be you. She’ll need you to come through for her over and over again throughout her life. Rise to the occasion. Red cape and blue tights optional.

4. Savor every moment you have together. Today she’s crawling around the house in diapers, tomorrow you’re handing her the keys to the car, and before you know it, you’re walking her down the aisle. Some day soon, hanging out with her old man won’t be the bees knees anymore. Life happens pretty fast. You better cherish it while you can.

5. Pray for her. Regularly. Passionately. Continually.

6. Buy her a glove and teach her to throw a baseball. Make her proud to throw like a girl… a girl with a wicked slider.

7. She will fight with her mother. Choose sides wisely.

8. Go ahead. Buy her those pearls.

9. Of course you look silly playing peek-a-boo. You should play anyway.

10. Enjoy the wonder of bath time.

11. There will come a day when she asks for a puppy. Don’t over think it. At least one time in her life, just say, “Yes.”

12. It’s never too early to start teaching her about money. She will still probably suck you dry as a teenager… and on her wedding day.

13. Make pancakes in the shape of her age for breakfast on her birthday. In a pinch, donuts with pink sprinkles and a candle will suffice.

14. Buy her a pair of Chucks as soon as she starts walking. She won’t always want to wear matching shoes with her old man.

15. Dance with her. Start when she’s a little girl or even when she’s a baby. Don’t wait ‘til her wedding day.

16. Take her fishing. She will probably squirm more than the worm on your hook. That’s OK.

17. Learn to say no. She may pitch a fit today, but someday you’ll both be glad you stuck to your guns.

18. Tell her she’s beautiful. Say it over and over again. Someday an animated movie or “beauty” magazine will try to convince her otherwise.

19. Teach her to change a flat. A tire without air need not be a major panic inducing event in her life. She’ll still call you crying the first time it happens.

20. Take her camping. Immerse her in the great outdoors. Watch her eyes fill with wonder the first time she sees the beauty of wide open spaces. Leave the iPod at home.

21. Let her hold the wheel. She will always remember when daddy let her drive.

22. She’s as smart as any boy. Make sure she knows that.

23. When she learns to give kisses, she will want to plant them all over your face. Encourage this practice.

24. Knowing how to eat sunflower seeds correctly will not help her get into a good college. Teach her anyway.

25. Letting her ride on your shoulders is pure magic. Do it now while you have a strong back and she’s still tiny.

26. It is in her nature to make music. It’s up to you to introduce her to the joy of socks on a wooden floor.

27. If there’s a splash park near your home, take her there often. She will be drawn to the water like a duck to a puddle.

28. She will eagerly await your return home from work in the evenings. Don’t be late.

29. If her mom enrolls her in swim lessons, make sure you get in the pool too. Don’t be intimidated if there are no other dads there. It’s their loss.

30. Never miss her birthday. In ten years she won’t remember the present you gave her. She will remember if you weren’t there.

31. Teach her to roller skate. Watch her confidence soar.

32. Let her roll around in the grass. It’s good for her soul. It’s not bad for yours either.

33. Take her swimsuit shopping. Don’t be afraid to veto some of her choices, but resist the urge to buy her full-body beach pajamas.

34. Somewhere between the time she turns three and her sixth birthday, the odds are good that she will ask you to marry her. Let her down gently.

35. She’ll probably want to crawl in bed with you after a nightmare. This is a good thing.

36. Few things in life are more comforting to a crying little girl than her father’s hand. Never forget this.

37. Introduce her to the swings at your local park. She’ll squeal for you to push her higher and faster. Her definition of “higher and faster” is probably not the same as yours. Keep that in mind.

38. When she’s a bit older, your definition of higher and faster will be a lot closer to hers. When that day comes, go ahead… give it all you’ve got.

39. Holding her upside down by the legs while she giggles and screams uncontrollably is great for your biceps. WARNING: She has no concept of muscle fatigue.

40. She might ask you to buy her a pony on her birthday. Unless you live on a farm, do not buy her a pony on her birthday. It’s OK to rent one though.

41. Take it easy on the presents for her birthday and Christmas. Instead, give her the gift of experiences you can share together.

42. Let her know she can always come home. No matter what.

43. Remember, just like a butterfly, she too will spread her wings and fly some day. Enjoy her caterpillar years.

44. Write her a handwritten letter every year on her birthday. Give them to her when she goes off to college, becomes a mother herself, or when you think she needs them most.

45. Learn to trust her. Gradually give her more freedom as she gets older. She will rise to the expectations you set for her.

46. When in doubt, trust your heart. She already does.

47. When your teenage daughter is upset, learning when to engage and when to back off will add years to YOUR life. If you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

48. Ice cream covers over a multitude of sins. Know her favorite flavor.

49. This day is coming soon. There’s nothing you can do to be ready for it. The sooner you accept this fact, the easier it will be.

50. Today she’s walking down the driveway to get on the school bus. Tomorrow she’s going off to college. Don’t blink.

PS: I'm such a crybaby! Did a lot of crying today just surfing the net. Haha!
